Winter 1998 Meeting at Purley Downs

The Inaugural staging of the Winter Stableford was held at Purley Downs, the home course of five Society members. A few old faces were enticed back for the one-round event, despite the recent wet weather. First match out was the consistent fourball of the day, Paul Micklefield scored 37 just one ahead of Mick Harland and Steve Watson. In the match behind, Paul Walker was doing even better and the 10-handicapper scored a superb 39 points to win the Purley Downs Trophy. Fellow members Shailen Patel and Al Nawrocki fought out a hard earned draw both scoring 35 for the other best scores of the day. A new Team competition was tried out with the best two scoring on the first six, three to score on the middle six and all to score on the last six. The Watson, Pitt, Harland, Micklefield quartet scored 114 for a three point victory.
