To celebrate the Society's tenth anniversary, we splashed out on a special summer event culminating in two round at the Belfry and an overnight stay in the golf lodges. Our first night was spent in a b&B in Coventry and we managed to find an excellent Balti restaurant nearby.

Medal at Ansty

The Sunday morning Medal took place at Ansty near Coventry. The municipal course was still a good test which included a few water hazards. In glorious sunny conditions, Gary Pitt was the clear winner and his 79 was a superb net four under par. Steve Watson was the only other player who bettered their handicap at -1.

Stableford on the Brabazon course at The Belfry 

The Sunday continued in beautiful sunny conditions at the Brabazon course, home of the Ryder cup. The only down side was the six-hour round which included about a 40-minute wait at the tenth. The course was in fantastic conditions, especially the fairways and bunkers. On such a special course the society played a one-off competition for this round. Gary Pitt finished what was a superb Sunday's golf with a winning 32 points, including nine pars. Runner-up was Mark Staples just a point behind and could boast the only par on the tough last hole.

Stableford on the Derby course at The Belfry 

Mark Staples retained his title in the two-round event, though not in the usual eclectic format. On the Monday morning on the easier Derby course he blitzed a score of 42 pts including just one dropped shot on the back nine. This gave him a runaway win on 73 pts over the two courses. Robin Dyson despite not scoring on the last three holes was the runner-up, his previous 29 giving him a total of 59. Steve Watson's 36 was not quite enough for a prize-winning spot finishing third on a total of 58.
