Summer 1996 Event held in Dorset

Eight golfers made the trip down to Dorset for the first ever Summer event, three rounds of golf over two days. The party stayed at a b&b in Poole and kicked off the first evening with a curry and a few beers.

Eclectic Stableford at Isle of Purbeck GC

Mark Staples was the Inaugural winner of Woodvale's two-round eclectic competition. His morning round of 33 left him just one point behind leader Steve Watson. Paul Hanby and Ian Pearce were also joint-second in the morning on 33. Mark scored an afternoon's best level-handicap 36 in the afternoon which gave him a better-ball score of 42. His bonus points for any hole with better than two net pars gave him three and a half more for a total of 45.5. Al Nawrocki took the runner-up prize with 42.5 pts, having scored the most bonus points.

The Isle of Purbeck is a superb venue for a golf day, the food is excellent and you are well looked after. We will definitely be going back some time!

 

Medal at Canford Magna GC

Mark Staples made it a fantastic double by winning Woodvale's first ever Medal competition. In an amazing round of golf, Mark and Steve Watson both 12-handicap, tore the Riverside course apart. Steve was +1 after nine with Mark on +2. They were dead level with two holes to play but Steve finished with two bogeys to Marks two pars. Mark had played the back nine in +1. The other two members of the fourball both shot a net 70 for joint third.

Canford Magna is undergoing work on a new clubhouse which should be ready by 1997. They have two eighteen hole courses and a par-3 nine-hole course.
