There were twenty six players for the nineteenth Woodvale golf day at the testing Ashdown Forest Hotel Course, with not a bunker in site. Thankfully the weather was pretty good. Gary Pitt defended his title well and scored a respectable 33 to be the early leader. A matchplay situation developed in match three. Al Nawrocki shot 21 on the front nine to Ian Cooper's 16. He clawed back two for a final 36 but Al Nawrocki's 39 points was good enough to win his first Stableford trophy. Graeme Ley with three previous runner-up positions started badly with only twelve at the turn. An amazing 25 coming back gave him 37 and another runner-up position. This did however win him the Novices shield. Three players all scored 35 to be just out of the prizes.

In the afternoon Scramble, the trio of Peter Gwatkin, Barry Hough and Peter Hopkins shot a gross level par round for a one and a half shot victory. Peter was also the best placed guest and also won the Nearest the Pin at the 12th. Ian Pitt a relative newcomer to the Society won the Longest-Drive at the seventeenth.

A new competition for 1996 is the Members Championship, previously held at H.S.S.G.S. The four rounds from 1995 and 1996 give us the most consistent player over the two years. With rounds of 30, 39, 34 and 33 our first winner is Gary Pitt.
