Autumn 2001 Golf Day at Addington Palace
Event 36 - 7th Sept 2001
|
Our 29th Golf day saw fine weather though the wind kept most
of the scores down. Not so for one golfer, Ian Cooper, who had
won at the nearby Addington just 18 months before. The 15-handicapper scored a
superb 42 to shatter the record winning margin which had previously stood at 3
shots. His nearest rivals both scored 36, Barry Hough beating Gary Pitt on the
countback to split 2nd and 3rd. Ian shot 10 pars in his round including six
straight pars from 11th to 16th. The fountain hole (12th) also saw him scoop the
nearest-the-pin, his fourth win since 1995, and another record. He did leave the
longest-drive for others, Paul Jeanes won this on the last hole and against the
wind. In the afternoon Texas Scramble, there was a clear winner. Only one team
scored under par gross and won by over two shots. The trio of Gary Bull, Pammi
Channa and Colin Fish scored a gross 69 and net 68.2 for victory. For Colin it
was back-to-back wins.
Ian Cooper however, had the last word. His 42 added to his previous three
rounds gave him a runaway victory in the four-round championship by 5 points.
