| Our four round and two year Championship
again proved to be a close competition. After 2 rounds
the 1997 Champion Peter Hooper had led the Championship
on 67 with rounds of 34 and 33. Richard Walsh was one
behind on 66 and there were three players on 64. Peter Hooper
extended his lead to three after West Byfleet with his
runner-up score of 37 giving him a total of 104. Richard
Walsh's 35 gave him 101. Both Ian Cooper and Gary Pitt on
97 were just about hanging on with a chance.
All was sorted out at Willingdon. Peter Hooper slipped
up with his 27, to be overtaken by Richard Walsh.
His 33 gave him a championship winning score of 134.
