| After the 2 rounds from 1996, Peter
Hooper had led the Championship with rounds of 33 and 35
for a leading score of 68. Gary Pitt was just one point
behind. Al Nawrocki's win at Singing Hills on 41
put him on top spot after 3 rounds on 106, with Gary Pitt
again just the one point behind. Peter Hooper was still
well placed on 102.
Well the low scoring saw off most of the contenders in
the fourth round at Cottesmore and it was Peter
Hooper with a final round of 33 to give him a
winning total of 135 (+9) and a six shot margin of
victory.
